A NANTGARW PORCELAIN CUP & SAUCER FROM THE MACKINTOSH SERVICE decorated richly in gilding with shells, scrolls and flowers around three panels of colourful flower sprays and with a bird in habitat to the interior of each, saucer 14cms diam¦Provenance: deceased estate west Wales¦Auctioneer`s Note: the Mackintosh service was commissioned by the Priest Richards family of `Pl¦s Newydd` near Cowbridge. In 1880, the service was presented to Ella Priest Richards on the occasion of her marriage to The Mackintosh of Mackintosh of Moy Hall, Inverness. The service and similar contemporary sets were almost certainly retailed by Mortlock`s and decorated in the London by Robbins & Randall, Barnsbury Street, Islington ¦Condition Report: no problems other than slight wear to gilding, dulling of enamels, possible re gilding of handle, good example.
