Highlights from the Summer Welsh Sale
The Summer Welsh Sale took place at Gregynog Hall at the end of July for the second year running.
With 85% of lots sold, and a total hammer price of £508,410, it was another strong showing for Welsh art.
July’s Welsh Sale kicked off with a strong selection of Gregynog Press books and rounded off with a fascinating group of items connected to David Lloyd George, consigned by his family. The auction featured a wide mix of Welsh art, with works by Sir Kyffin Williams, Donald McIntyre, Ceri Richards, Gwilym Prichard, and Valerie Ganz attracting attention from both seasoned collectors and first-time buyers — including 46 new successful bidders.
Kyffin Williams had another standout day, with his work accounting for half of the total hammer price. A total of 80 lots sold above their top estimates, reflecting strong demand across the board. Among the artists who exceeded expectations were Valerie Ganz and Mark Samuel, each with four lots selling above their top estimates.
Below are a few of the highlights from the day.
