Foreword by Nicky Piper MBE, former Commonwealth Champion Boxer & Corporate Partnerships Manager with City Hospice, Cardiff

This is City Hospice’s ninth charity art auction and the first time we have gone online-only.

This is due to Coronavirus restrictions and we are truly thankful to Rogers Jones & Co for supporting the charity. Without them, this auction would not take place and City Hospice would lose out on valuable income needed to support the fantastic work carried out by its clinical team. We are also extremely grateful to them for donating the 15% buyer’s premium back to City Hospice meaning that every penny raised will go directly to the charity. Of course, we are also grateful to all the artists who have donated every piece of art free of charge.

City Hospice is the only provider of home-based specialist palliative care to those suffering from cancer and other life-limiting illnesses in Cardiff. The charity cares for those over 18 when a cure is no longer possible.

We aim to improve the quality of patient's living and dying while extending care and support to their families and loved ones.

We have a very active hospice centre with many activities, such as bereavement counselling, physiotherapy, rakei, reflexology, hypnotherapy, patient coffee mornings and social groups. However, the vast majority of care takes place in the patient’s own homes.

Our doctors are palliative medical specialists and can offer the latest advice on medication, pain and symptom control as well as treatment options, giving our patients the best possible information on the options for their individual circumstances and symptoms. This can mean the difference between being able to manage their symptoms and staying in their own homes or having to go into hospital or hospice.

The charity has to raise £2 million each year and receives less than 30% of this from the government, so, events like this, are vital for the hospice to continue providing care to the population of Cardiff.
