Classic MG Cars Coming to Auction
Two iconic British cars are heading to auction in our September Jewellery, Coins & Watches Sale: a beautifully restored 1951 MG TD Midget and a 1970 MGB Roadster.
Discover more about these two classic MGs below.
1951 MG TD Midget
Introduced in late 1949, the MG TD Midget built on the success of its predecessor, the TC Midget. The TC’s popularity in America heavily influenced the TD’s design, with the new car being wider and heavier, partly to accommodate American tastes - including the all-important bumpers, added in no small part to protect against American parking skills! It was also the first production T-type offered in left-hand drive.
Produced until 1953, the TD proved an even greater commercial success than the TC, with 29,664 cars built during its four-year production run - three times the number of TCs. Over 80% of these were sold in America.
1951 MG TD MIDGET
Classic MG red bodywork with beige interior and weather equipment, 1250cc
£6,000-8,000

Originally green, this 1951 MG TD Midget was subject to a full restoration, with much of the work completed and documented by MG specialists Naylor Brothers in 2007.
It comes with its original operation manual, service documentation and a library of photographs illustrating various stages of the restoration.

1970 MGB Roadster
The MGB Roadster was introduced in 1962 as the successor to the MGA and remained in production until 1980. Powered by a 1.8-litre four-cylinder engine, it was produced in several versions during its 18-year production run, but the basic body shape remained largely unchanged – a design that still looks good over 60 years later.
1970 MGB ROADSTER
Classic MG red bodywork with black interior
£3,000-4,000

Comes with a library of photographs illustrating various stages of restoration, thought to have been taken around 2010.
