Auction Review: August 2026

One of the surprises of the day came in the form of a large group of Hot Wheels scale model cars, which raced past their £300-400 estimate to sell for £1,400 — more than four times the top estimate.

A good selection of cameras and accessories also sold well, with a Canon lens taking the top lot of the day.

Cardiff's August sale featured a good selection of antique and mid-century furniture, with three sculptural lounge chairs made from Californian redwood stealing the show.

Attributed to American designer Daryl Stokes, the chairs each sold for £1,600 against estimates of just £350–450.

Chester's sale was full of interesting finds, from a large single-owner collection of clocks to antique cockfighting memorabilia.

Two Wheatstone & Co. concertinas performed especially well, but the top lot of the day was a silver canteen of cutlery.
