The Grana watch is one of the ‘Dirty Dozen’ wristwatches made by 12 Swiss manufacturers for an order from the British Ministry of Defence during the tail-end of the Second World War for issue to army personnel. The acronym WWW to the case back stood for ‘Watch, Wrist, Waterproof’. Twelve different brands were commissioned to make the watches in c.1945: Buren, Cyma, Eterna, Grana, International Watch Co, Jaeger-Le-Coultre, Lemania, Longines, Omega, Record, Timor and Vertex. The Grana is considered the Holy Grail of the Dirty Dozen with perhaps as few as 1500 produced.

Lot 518 is a Grana military wristwatch that forms part of a strong watch section including the more famous names of Rolex, Cartier and Boucheron.

Also in the category of exceptionally rare are two wonderful Wedgwood bowls by the celebrated designer of the interwar years, Daisy Makeig-Jones. Only one 'Leaping Chamois' bowl has entered the auction market in the last twenty years.
