At the time he was there, there was also a party of German `wild-fowlers` who appeared quite oblivious to the plaques on the walls of many of the houses noting the names, ages of the recent occupants who had apparently been killed during the German occupation in the 1939-45 War. He was quite profoundly disturbed by this seeming indifference`
