A NANTGARW PORCELAIN TUREEN FROM THE MARQUIS OF ANGLESEY SERVICE circular based with upturned spindle handles with floral embossed discs, the cover of conical form surmounted with beadwork around a pineapple finial, complete with circular stand, painted in London with garlands of brightly coloured garden flowers reserved on wide solid gilt bands, and with gilded scroll and foliage design to borders, handles and finial picked out in gold, tureen impressed NANT GARW CW (inside of foot), tureen 13.5cms high, stand 19cms diam¦Provenance: private collection, south east England, bears Sir Leslie Joseph Collection label No.497, Lot 321 at Sotheby`s `The Sir Leslie Joseph Collection` auction, 15th May 1992 (but incorrectly described as Marquis of Exeter), sold for a price of ¦1980¦Auctioneer`s Note: stand impressed Swansea, as the Marquis of Anglesey service was notable for being a combination of porcelains from both Swansea and Nantgarw, this was due to the available supply of Nantgarw porcelain being insufficient for the commission¦Condition Report: stand has no apparent problems other than gilding wear in the interior due to the seating of the base, cover has wear to finial and does not sit perfectly on body, the tureen has old repairs to handles but with no other areas of damage or repair apparent. Enameling and gilding are fresh on each element, wear to gilding in expected areas
