PARLIAMENT RECRUITING COMMITTEE colour lithograph - colour Welsh language propaganda poster for World War I recruitment `Y Darn Papur` (the scrap of paper), circa 1914, printed by Johnson, Riddle & Co, London, 72 x 47cms¦Auctioneer`s Note: the `scrap of paper` relates to a contemptuous reference made by the German chancellor regarding the 1839 treaty signed by Germany, France, Britain and Russia which intended to guarantee the protection of Belgium from invasion. The metaphoric tearing up of the treaty by Germany led to Britain`s entry into the war.¦This perceived act of treachery on Germany`s part was widely used in Allied propaganda. The poster was extensively distributed throughout the UK and overseas including this Welsh language version (despite the Army`s ambivalence to the use of the Welsh language).
