Royal Cambrian Academy Fundraising Art Auction

The Royal Cambrian Academy of Art are pleased to present this fundraising auction of over 200 paintings, drawings, prints and sculpture, donated or acquired from members past and present, together with work donated and bequeathed by supporters over the years.

Following the recent threat of closure, due to lack of funding, sales from this auction will help save our esteemed Welsh institution. Work purchased will support the Academy’s work championing Welsh art and artists.

The Academy thanks Ben Rogers Jones for generously offering to conduct this online charity auction.

The auction lots are on display at the RCA’s Conwy gallery: viewing days on Saturdays 29th November, 6th and 13th December.

About timed auctions

In a timed auction, there is no auctioneer taking bids from a live audience in a room. Instead, bids can be placed online, on each lot for a defined period of time. Once the time-period expires, the bidder who has submitted the highest bid wins the lot, provided the bid exceeds the reserve price.

The auction will run from 3rd–18th December, with bidding on lots closing sequentially. Lot 1 will close at 12:00pm, Lot 2 at 12:01pm, Lot 3 at 12:02pm, and so on.

Max Bids

As a bidder, you can enter a max bid – the most you are willing to bid, and we do the rest. We will bid intelligently for you, only enough to meet the reserve or stay in the lead. We won’t share your maximum bid with the auctioneer, the seller, other bidders, or anyone else for that matter.

End-time extension

If a bid is placed in the final few minutes of the auction, the end-time will be extended to protect against ‘sniping’ – the practice of bidders placing bids in the last few seconds preventing other bidders responding. A bid placed in the final 10 minutes extends the lot's end-time by 10 minutes.

Outbid notifications

You’ll see your ‘current bid’ when you log in and view the lot (often it will be less than your ‘maximum bid’). If someone bids higher than your maximum, we will send you an ‘outbid alert’ via email to let you know, so you can decide whether or not to bid more.

Payment

Please make payment as soon as possible. We cannot guarantee the release of any lots for payments made after 5pm on Friday 19th December. You must receive a confirmation email from us confirming that payment has been received before your lots can be released.
