Purchases are conducted through the auction process in other words - to buy, one must bid first. When the auctioneer drops his gavel the bidder has entered a legally binding contract to purchase the item. Please note that viewing (checking the condition of items and examining lots against catalogue descriptions and for your own satisfaction) always takes place before the commencement of the auction. When the auctioneer's hammer falls for the bidder's final lot at an auction, whether the bidder is in the room or absent, the next step is to pay for the item(s) without exception.
If you have not bid before then it really should not worry you. The following are ways in which you can bid.
Register your details at our reception office shortly before or during the commencement of the auction. We will then supply you with a bidding number on a card. Before the lot that you are interested in is offered, find yourself a location where you can be visible to the auctioneer. Raise your card when you wish to bid. If you are successful with your bid then show the auctioneer the number. You can now pay for your item and collect if you are ready unless you wish to bid on further lots.
This method of bidding allows you to be elsewhere whilst the auction is in process. A commission bid is the maximum price that you wish to pay for an item and the auctioneers will then bid up to that value on your behalf. You may pay any price up to your maximum depending on the extent of other bids.
Commission Bids must be lodged using our form which can be downloaded above. The form should be handed to a member of our staff, scanned and e-mailed to us or faxed. In all instances the form must be in our hands 30 minutes prior to commencement of the auction. Please note that verbal commission bids are not acceptable.
If you are viewing our on-line catalogues at www.rogersjones.co.uk you can place commission bids on-line as you browse. Simply click on the lot you are interested and follow the simple procedure from then on. With your first ever Internet Commission Bid you will be required to provide all your details but these details will be stored for future bids*.
