How to Buy – Simplified

There really is no need to be intimidated by auctions. It really is an easy process that you will very quickly become accustomed to and possibly addicted!

If you are interested in an item it is recommended that you inspect the item first during “viewing” to ascertain the amount of money that you want to spend up to.

To bid on the item or items that you are interested in you can attend the auction in person. On arrival at the auction register your details at reception and we will provide you with a bidding number on a card, it is this that you need to raise to the auctioneers attention when you want to place bids. You can register at any time on auction day either before or during the auction.

It is not necessary for you to attend the auction to bid. A commission or absentee bid can be left. To do this please see the form attached at the top of this page. All you need do is state the lot number that you wish to bid on and the amount you are prepared to spend up to and we will do the rest.

To ensure that your commission bid is lodged our office needs to be in receipt of the form half an hour before the start of the auction.

Bidding on the Phone

Telephone bidding is also available for higher valuable items, this is arranged on application. We will only accept telephone bids if they are applied for the day before the auction and they are subject to the number of lines available.

Buyers Premium

Buyers Premium is an additional levy on hammer price payable by the buyer.

This is a fixed percentage of the hammer price and varies throughout the UK from auction house to auction house. Please enquire as to the operating rate.

Catalogues

Prior to the auction, the catalogue will appear on this web site (all sales) and antiques only on www.antiquestradegazette.com

The on-line catalogue is available for our Antiques and Fine Art auction approximately ten days before the auction. This on-line catalogue will provide images for all smaller items. The images help you understand the form of the item but are not to be relied on for condition or detail.

Further images or photographs can be provided whilst the best way to gain a report on the condition of an item is to telephone. A printed catalogue is available approximately one week prior to the Antique and Fine Art sale.

Estimates of items are provided for the Antique and Fine Art Sale and are available with the printed catalogue.

For the General, Household and Collectables auction a list of items is available a day prior to the auction.

Payment

We accept debit cards, cash and cheques with a guarantee card and identification. Payment is required within three days of the sale.

Purchased Goods

We require the removal of purchased furniture by 12pm the day after the auction. Smaller goods can be packed and sent to you or collected by arrangement.
